Investing for Your Future

Building your investment portfolio

Your investment portfolio covers the investments you own across all your accounts; for example, pensions, collective investments, individual shares or bank deposits. Ideally, your portfolio will be spread across a variety of assets such as equities, bonds, property and cash and this asset mix will have been determined by your specific financial objectives, and attitude to risk.

Your attitude to risk is the key to help determine which asset classes (equities, bonds, property and cash) you should invest in and and in what proportion. For example; you may have a very low risk tolerance, suggesting that you should hold the majority of your money in deposit accounts, or a medium level risk tolerance which would suggest holding a blend of all the main asset types, or even a high level risk tolerance which means that you may want to invest mainly in shares.

At Knights Noble we take great care to carefully assess the level of investment risk that you wish to take, before making any recommendations. In addition we will take as much time as you need to help you to understand how the different asset classes and investments in your portfolio behave. Based on our understanding of your goals, your attitude to risk and the timescale of your investment we can help you decide how much of your portfolio goes into each asset class (equities, bonds, property and cash) and then which particular investment funds you should invest in. Finally we ensure that your investments are held in the most tax efficient way for you.

We can offer you ready made solutions if you prefer; however at Knights Noble one of our key strengths is that we can build bespoke investment portfolios using the right funds and investment wrappers from the whole market.

You can also rest assured that all our recommendations will have been positively screened, taking into account such factors as the financial strength of the provider, overall investment performance and fund manager ratings. We want you to know that your investments are in safe hands.

The importance of regular reviews

Ultimately, a portfolio’s success is dependant on its performance, and a good portfolio should work efficiently to generate the maximum level of income or growth for your attitude to risk; however to ensure that it keeps on doing so your investments will need regular attention to keep them on track.

Our regular investment review service will examine whether the underlying investments are performing in line with expectations and also whether your portfolio needs to be 'tweaked' according to the wider economic environment, or perhaps 'rebalanced' to bring it back into line with your attitude to risk. Regular financial planning reviews will also take account of your changing circumstances and goals, as well as changes to the investment and taxation environment. For all these reasons we strongly recommend that you take up this service.

The value of investments and the income from them may go down; you may not get back the original amount invested.
